Dartmouth is a small coastal town in South Devon, situated on the beautiful River Dart. A ferry runs across the river to Kingswear, from where steam trains run to Paignton. The narrow streets of the town date back some four hundred years, and the town has many historical connections. From here, the Crusaders set sail in the late 12th Century, in 1373 Chaucer visited the town, and more recently American forces were based here as they prepared for the Normandy landings of 1944. Above the town is the Britannia Royal Naval College, where all officers of the Royal Navy are trained.
