| Our aim here at the British Coast Guide is to create a portal to the coast, providing visitors with introductions to areas of the coast they will not know about. Using video, both of our own production and those of tourism boards and locals. Around this presentation we would love to promote your business... |

From the industrial ports of Purfleet and Tilbury, the coastline of Essex changes to one of pristine resorts, ancient monuments and recreational sailing haunts.
Canvey Island, reclaimed from the sea yet inhabited since pre-Roman times and Southend-on-Sea, a large resort popular with Londoners that boasts a mile-long pier complete with its own railway are both south-facing and sheltered. And nearby, past the mudflats of Maplin, are a series of rivers and inlets, used extensively by sailors. Yacht clubs and marinas can be found at Burnham on Crouch, West Mersea and Brightlingsea.
Further north and east are the resorts of Clacton-on-Sea, Frinton-on-Sea and Walton-on-the-Naze. Clacton is a big, popular Victorian resort with pier, caravan parks, a golf course, amusements and an airfield. Its neighbour Frinton is an altogether more conservative and quieter seaside town, which famously had no pubs until recently.
Essex is home to the major commercial port of Harwich which lies at the mouth of the rivers Orwell and Stour.
