| Our aim here at the British Coast Guide is to create a portal to the coast, providing visitors with introductions to areas of the coast they will not know about. Using video, both of our own production and those of tourism boards and locals. Around this presentation we would love to promote your business... |

Swansea (Abertawe in Welsh) is a major city and port at the mouth of the River Tawe with sandy, sheltered, south-facing beaches on Swansea Bay. It has an industrial heritage, much of which was based on coal-mining and copper smelting. Now however it is a regional centre with a university, marina, theatre, the National Waterfront and other museums, a good shopping centre, and varied nightlife. From here ferries sail overnight to Cork in Ireland. Along the bay is the Victorian resort of Mumbles, with its pier, castle, restaurants and hotels.
The Gower peninsula is famed for its beaches, which have won numerous awards. It was the first area in the country to be designated an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB), because of its rural interior and spectacular coastline. Three Cliffs Bay, Oxwich Beach, Rhossili Bay Llangennith Beach and Brandy Cove have all won ‘Best Beach’ awards from a bewildering array of newspapers, magazines and television programmes. They are all beautiful or spectacular in their own way; all boast wide stretches of clean sand, some backed by dunes, others by cliffs or downs. The beaches in the west are famed for surfing, and other sports such as windsurfing and hang-gliding. Worms Head near Rhossili is linked to the mainland by a causeway, covered at high tide, and the walks and views from the village of Rhossili are tremendous. The complex geology of the peninsula brings limestone scenery and caves together with deciduous woodland, sandstone heathland, salt marshes and dunes.
